We're lucky at Maui Coffee Roasters; we live in paradise. Since 1972, we've roasted our beans beneath the watchful gaze of Haleakala, House of the Sun. Our shop continues to fill with noisy friends, marvelous music, and questionable art. (Or is it marvelous art and questionable friends?) At any rate, we who live and brew at the foot of a barely dormant volcano are faced with a single mission:

Humbly offer exceptional handcrafted Hawaiian coffees to the world.

Will that save us ultimately from being swallowed by lava? We don't know.

While shopping around for coffee, look carefully at the amount being sold. Sites may seem to have better prices but they're selling 10 or 12 oz packages.

We don't waste time on mediocre beans. We are artisans. We roast in small batches on the premises daily. We use 100% pure Kona coffee , Hawaiian estate coffees , and outstanding international coffees. We deliver fruits of our labor to the four corners of the earth at the best price possible.

What makes Hawaiian Coffee exceptional? KONA!

Kona coffee, the forerunner of Hawaiian coffees, is distinguished by several factors. First, it is grown in optimal conditions: clouded, volcanic slopes drenched by occasional downpours. Second, it is hand-harvested, water-processed, and sun-dried. Each step involves human hands and human attentiveness. The machinery used on large, international plantations can't tell a moldy or unripe coffee berry from a plump, juicy berry. Kona coffee is uncommonly smooth because sour berries don't make it to the roaster.

Kona coffee farms are small and produce relatively small yields, so few people are lucky enough to enjoy cups of 100% pure Kona Coffee. The market is rife with cheap, misleading blendslabeled "Not less than 10% Pure Kona Coffee." If you take one Kona bean, nine Colombian Beans, grind them up and brew up some coffee, you'll end up with a cup that tastes very much like Colombian coffee. It's not bad coffee. It's just not 100% Pure Kona Coffee.

When you buy our 100% Pure Kona Coffee, you get 100% Pure Kona Coffee. No confusion.

We use 20% Kona in our Hawaiian blends . The purpose of our blends is to conjure a great brew, not just hype Kona. Finding exactly the right combination of flavor, body, and acidity in any single bean is difficult. Well-balanced blends offer the opportunity to unite the unbridled strength of Sumatra and the rarified mists of Kona in one cup.

Our flavored coffees begin with good beans. Sparingly applied flavors compliment rather than overwhelm the coffee's own qualities. The idea is a well-built cup of coffee with a dash of adventurous flavor.
